Scale-free neocortical dynamics

چکیده
Figure 1: Distributions of the numbers of connections at varying distances are schematized in log-log coordinates. The straight line indicates power-law 1/f. Scalefree dynamics of neocortex are characterized by hierarchical self-similarities of patterns of synaptic connectivity and spatiotemporal neural activity, seen in power-law distributions of structural and functional parameters and in rapid state transitions between levels of the hierarchy.

Influences of Small-Scale Effect and Boundary Conditions on the Free Vibration of Nano-Plates: A Molecular Dynamics Simulation
This paper addresses the influence of boundary conditions and small-scale effect on the free vibration of nano-plates using molecular dynamics (MD) and nonlocal elasticity theory. Based on the MD simulations, Large-scale Atomic/Molecular Massively Parallel Simulator (LAMMPS) is used to obtain fundamental frequencies of single layered graphene sheets (SLGSs) which modeled in this paper as the mo...
متن کاملNeocortical Dynamics at Multiple Scales : EEG Standing
The dynamic behavior of scalp potentials (EEG) is apparently due to some combination of global and local processes with important top-down and bottom-up interactions across spatial scales. In treating global mechanisms, we stress the importance of myelinated axon propagation delays and periodic boundary conditions in the cortical-white matter system, which is topologically close to a spherical ...
متن کاملScaling of topologically similar functional modules defines mouse primary auditory and somatosensory microcircuitry.
Mapping the flow of activity through neocortical microcircuits provides key insights into the underlying circuit architecture. Using a comparative analysis we determined the extent to which the dynamics of microcircuits in mouse primary somatosensory barrel field (S1BF) and auditory (A1) neocortex generalize. We imaged the simultaneous dynamics of up to 1126 neurons spanning multiple columns an...
متن کاملToward a quantitative description of large-scale neocortical dynamic function and EEG.
A general conceptual framework for large-scale neocortical dynamics based on data from many laboratories is applied to a variety of experimental designs, spatial scales, and brain states. Partly distinct, but interacting local processes (e.g., neural networks) arise from functional segregation. Global processes arise from functional integration and can facilitate (top down) synchronous activity...
متن کاملRapid Neocortical Dynamics: Cellular and Network Mechanisms
The highly interconnected local and large-scale networks of the neocortical sheet rapidly and dynamically modulate their functional connectivity according to behavioral demands. This basic operating principle of the neocortex is mediated by the continuously changing flow of excitatory and inhibitory synaptic barrages that not only control participation of neurons in networks but also define the...
